Goals

The major goal of science fairs is to motivate and stimulate students who have a special interest and talent in science to pursue science-related careers. By doing science research, they learn the nature of science. Science fairs provide a vehicle by which talented science and mathematics students can be recognized just as athletes are recognized in sporting events.  2017 will be the 27th year that Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is hosting the Greater Capital Region Science and Engineering Fair, an affiliate of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) and the Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS) State Science Congress. Quality research from the Senior Division (grades 9-12) will be chosen to compete in the Intel ISEF and the STANYS State Science Congress. Quality research from the Junior Division (grades 6-8) will be chosen to compete in the STANYS State Science Congress and the new National Broadcom competition.
